Lyme-Disease is an infection with a micro-organism. Like many infections, it is sensitive to antibiotics. As always, the optimal way to deal with any medical problem is to prevent it. I have spent my entire medical career teaching people how to prevent illness.

The earlier one begins a preventive lifestyle of healthy habits, the more effective that lifestyle will be. In general, it is never too late to begin preventing illness or injury.

Lyme-Disease prevention starts by avoiding tick contact. Don’t worry, one need not spend the entire year indoors—there are many ways to enjoy nature and avoid the contacts of harmful organisms.

Lyme-Disease Prevention

Prevention of Lyme-Diseas is like the preventing of sun damage to the skin, it is best accomplished by covering and protecting the skin. Many people prefer shorts and T-shirts in the warm weather, however, if you are going to be out where ticks can bite you, then clothing is the optimal preventative method of choice.

If the time at high risk is extended, such as a vacation in the outdoors, further protection can be added to the clothing. Spraying the clothes with permethrin – prior to leaving acts as an additional barrier between you and the harsher aspects of nature.

As always, after any time in the outdoors, a careful check for the presence of ticks is necessary. These are easily removed, if done carefully. The techniques can be discussed by either contacting me with a message on the homepage, or feel free to schedule an appointment.
