A visit to my office is a healing experience. Hopefully, our interaction will lead my patients to enhance their lifestyle with healthy choices.

I like spending a lot of time with people in my office. Besides patiently listening to someone’s concerns, I enjoy teaching about being healthy and the nature of illness. I want people to know how to pursue total well-being and how to prevent medical problems.

The goal is to live a healthy life.

Treatment

When someone comes to me with a history suggestive of exposure to Lyme-Disease, I prefer to treat presumptively. Antibiotics are the best path at this time, and several options are available for this path. These can be reviewed at the time of a scheduled appointment.

However, beyond antibiotics, the overall health of the individual must be addressed. There are many modalities, including dietary and lifestyle habits, which can enhance a person’s health and make them more resistant to infection.

Lyme-Disease Syndrome

Once chronic symptoms have become apparent, the nature of treatment is altered. Many factors determine the type of therapy that will be used. The most important questions relating to Lyme-Disease Syndrome include the length of time since initial exposure, past antibiotic and other therapy, and the various other problems that need to be addressed.

Lyme-Disease Syndrome is a management problem. Although a “cure” is certainly desired, many have to accept that controlling the symptoms, enhancing one’s ability to function, and to enjoy life may be a more productive set of goals.

There are still many therapeutic benefits to be found. We need to work together to help find the most relieving treatment possible. At the same time, I will guide you to find the way down your own path to recovery and an increasingly fulfilling life.

Specific Therapies

Although Lyme-Disease is initially caused by an infection, the spirochete itself may not be present even in later-stage disease. The body is most likely suffering from an autoimmune problem. Meaning, the infecting organism stimulated an immune response in the body. Even if the bug has been cleared from the system, the autoimmune response process can persist.

Antibiotics still function in this situation. Antibiotic medicines can block the harmful effects of the body’s attack upon itself. This is a greatly recognized benefit. For example, rheumatoid arthritis—an example of an autoimmune disease—is often at least partially relieved by antibiotics.

Part of my commitment to you, and what is necessary in treating Lyme-Disease, is to teach you to be healthier. This is not so simple as: “eat right, get lots of exercise, and have a good-night’s sleep.” Though these are important principles, they are but stepping-stones to where your health-awareness will be.

I have had great success using nutritional supplements to enhance health. It is more than just taking a multivitamin, there are many anti-oxidants and other supplements which are useful to alter the course of a chronic illness. For example, a high dose of Coenzyme Q-10 has great ability to modify, and in some cases, repair neurological problems—including those of Lyme-Disease.

The therapy should apply uniquely to each individual so that as we work together, we discover a plan that is beneficial to you.
